Audiobook release: Benny Rose the Cannibal King

It’s March here in 2022, but in Blackwood, Vermont, there’s no time better than Halloween.

A little over two years after its print and ebook release, Benny Rose the Cannibal King is now in audiobook! With new art by the fantastic Don Noble and narrative by the magnetic Laura Lockwood, it’s time for a Halloween ghost story, whether new to the Blackwood Devil or if he’s a familiar treat. You can find the audiobook on Audible, Libro.FM, Hoopla, and more, plus your local library’s digital collection. They don’t have it? Request it, and they might grab it for you.

“An almost cinematic experience … this book has teeth.” – Rue Morgue

Blackwood, Vermont has one legend to its name—Benny Rose, the Cannibal King. Every local kid knows him and tells his stories, especially on Halloween. When a new girl moves to town in the autumn of 1987, the legend inspires high school junior Desiree St. Fleur and her friends to pull a Benny Rose-themed prank. A few laughs and screams, and they’ll have a Happy Halloween.

But a vicious storm crashes into Blackwood and interrupts the festivities. Soon the girls find themselves trapped and hunted in a strange neighborhood where no one will help them. There’s nothing made-up about Benny Rose this Halloween night. The truth is coming, and it’s hungry.

Coming to audio: Benny Rose the Cannibal King

I meant to announce this on the second anniversary of the original release, but I wanted to give the Stoker Preliminary Ballot room to breathe. But here we are: Benny Rose the Cannibal King will be chewing his way into audio this spring from Author’s Republic, narrated by Laura Lockwood! Feast your eyes on the audiobook cover art by Don Noble:

We’re still a ways from the release, but when the time comes, you’ll find Benny Rose the Cannibal King on Audible, Libro.FM, Apple, and more, as well as requestable from public libraries!

Benny Rose, the Cannibal King – new novella

Finally, it’s release day!

Unnerving’s Rewind or Die series is off to the races, and my new novella, Benny Rose, the Cannibal King, has been unleashed in both Kindle edition and paperback!

Praise from these incredible horror authors:

“Hailey Piper is a major new voice in the horror genre, and Benny Rose, the Cannibal King is the perfect place to start with her work. A short and magnificent shock to the system, this one has got everything: great characters, fantastic vintage horror vibes, and a terrifying urban legend at the center of it all. Keep an eye on Hailey’s work; she is seriously going places.”
–Gwendolyn Kiste, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of The Rust Maidens

“A good urban legend has a way of seeping into your bones and refusing to crawl out; Hailey Piper’s Cannibal King is certainly one of those that will be creeping into my mind, late at night and unbidden, for a long time to come. Benny Rose is an unforgettable terror, rivaled only by the gutsy teens who dare to go up against him.”
–Claire Holland, author of I Am Not Your Final Girl

“I see your slumber party massacre and raise you a taste of human tragedy, a funhouse ride of plot twists, and a heaping side of gore. Hailey Piper has the audacity to write teenage mean girls as thinking, feeling, bad-ass human beings.”
–Joanna Koch, author of The Couvade

“Sometimes when we tell ourselves stories, we unwittingly awaken and summon the very monster we thought only lived in our minds…. Witness a brilliant cast of characters take a chomping bite out of a local folk story that proves itself all too real. With haunted hearts and burning teeth, Piper’s sharp prose delivers a whirlwind tale; here, we peel back the layers of our strong, female leads and root for them to conquer the night.”
–Sara Tantlinger, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of The Devil’s Dreamland

Coming in 2020, Benny Rose: The Cannibal King

One more Halloween announcement–fitting because October 31st is his day.

Benny Rose, the Cannibal King will be released by Unnerving on January 23rd, 2020.  Does his name sound familiar?  All the kids of Blackwood, Vermont tell his stories, sing his songs, keep alive the memory of a man who never existed … or did he?

There will be more updates to come as the release date draws closer, but for now feast your eyes on the cover art.

And dread the legend of the Cannibal King.
