“Fitting Room for Two” in Not Just a Pretty Face

It’s been a long time coming, but Not Just a Pretty Face is out today from Dead Light Publishing. All women, all horror.

My story “Fitting Room for Two” follows a strange discovery in a Manhattan clothing boutique in the 1930s. It was written around the time of An Invitation to Darkness, when I tried to match style to time period, so it may seem odd from my usual, but the horror is fresh meat.

“Feast for Small Pieces” in Year’s Best Hardcore Horror, Volume 5

In a rare instance of punctuality this year, I’m posting about a release on release day. Can you imagine?

Today Red Room Press releases The Year’s Best Hardcore Horror, Volume 5: Going Global, a stunning anthology of 2019’s hardest hitting, most gruesome, and darkest horror short stories. My flash fiction “Feast for Small Pieces” is the first story you’ll see inside, followed by a host of wonderful horror.

This is the first time one of my works has been included in any Best of anthology, so it’s extra special to me for that. Available in ebook and paperback, with an audiobook on the way!

Also, the first Hailey’s Comments newsletter went out today. If you’re not already subscribed, change that for the better here.

“Without a Face” in Not All Monsters: Special Edition

Time is so strange that months ahead of the standard edition, a special edition of Not All Monsters has released from Rooster Republic via Strangehouse Books!

Get the special illustrated edition in paperback or hardcover here!

My story of a school reunion gone wrong, “Without a Face,” joins stories by some of horror’s fiercest women writing today, an anthology of the monstrous feminine edited by the Bram Stoker Award-winning author of The Devil’s Dreamland, Sara Tantlinger.

A standard, non-illustrated edition will release in October, but this version is out now.

“Endless Parade” in Flash Fiction Online; An Invitation to Darkness in paperback

Welcome to April, our latest geological era of 2020, and I have a new story out! A flash fiction of post-apocalyptic folk horror, “Endless Parade,” is up on Flash Fiction Online.

In less new news, but still new-ish, my LGBT Gothic horror story An Invitation to Darkness, published as a standalone novelette in digital form by Demain Publishing in September 2019, is now in paperback! With the worldwide paper/publishing situation as it is, I’m not sure how availability will be, but it is there. It exists!

“Candyland” in Twisted Love

Bronzeville Books has released a new anthology, Twisted Love, stuffed with tales of affection gone wrong. Plenty of fantastic authors on this TOC!

My story tackles glamor, ambition, and puts a critical eye to how adolescent girls are cast in ominous shadows. Check out “Candyland” in Twisted Love.

Small update, for those who want to support indie bookstores, here are links to my available novellas on Bookshop.org: The Possession of Natalie Glasgow and Benny Rose, the Cannibal King.

“Last on Santa’s List” on Daily Science Fiction

On this dark Christmas morning, my final published story of 2019, “Last on Santa’s List,” has published on Daily Science Fiction. Drabbles aside, it’s also my shortest story this year.

That about does it for 2019; onward to 2020! I’ll have lots of new stories being published on sites, in anthologies, and a couple in audio form, too! Benny Rose, the Cannibal King releases on January 23 from Unnerving (less than a month now!) and I’ll have a couple other big projects to announce as the year goes on. Thank you to everyone who’s read my work this year. I’ve had tremendous support and warm responses, particularly to The Possession of Natalie Glasgow, which found renewed love this year. My best to everyone; there are exciting things ahead.

See you in the ’20s!
