“There Will Always Be Men Like Johnny” in Hymns of Abomination; Queen of Teeth on ebook

September is here, aka Halloween Month Eve, and I have a new short story out. Hymns of Abomination: Secret Songs of Leeds is a tribute anthology to Matthew Bartlett, packed with bizarre horror that squirms and writhes through the fictional region of Leeds. My murderous story “There Will Always Be Men Like Johnny” tells of half measures and full horrors. It’s a bit personal, a bit farfetched, and I’m proud to be on such an incredible TOC. The ebook is out now, with the paperback coming sometime in the future.

Check it out on Kindle!

In other news, Queen of Teeth has been available for a lovely tentacle-filled month in paperback. Well, the story’s monster has only grown her reach, as now she’s available in ebook too!

Paperback release: Queen of Teeth

My debut novel, Queen of Teeth, has released in paperback from Rooster Republic Press via their imprint Strangehouse Books! Paperback available from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and indie bookstores!

Follow Yaya Betancourt’s saga from her discovery of vagina dentata to being hunted by the most powerful corporation in America. Set in alternative present day Newark, New Jersey, a genetic dystopia seeks to swallow Yaya up in its new experiments, but as her condition grows tentacles, horns, and a mind of its own, we’ll see who eats and who gets eaten.

“A powerful, beautiful horror story.” – Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

“One of the best horror horror books of 2021.” – Rue Morgue

“If there’s such a thing as defiant horror, Hailey Piper’s Queen of Teeth must be its gold standard. This bold, visceral story about the right to one’s own body is equal parts heartfelt and brilliant – and most importantly, razor-sharp.”

– Nadia Bulkin, author of She Said Destroy

“Hailey Piper’s debut novel, Queen of Teeth, is a gorgeous, wonderfully weird tale that does not hesitate to take readers into a unique, magenta-colored dystopia. Not a single word is wasted. Every moment propels us along into a battle for control, a search for identity, and the need to transform into something bold and true. Piper’s wit, razor-sharp imagination, and dedication to her craft are so brilliantly centered throughout the entire book. A true becoming is a bloody, beautiful, and sinewy kind of change — arrive hungry, pick up this book, and make your world a better place.”

– Sara Tantlinger, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of The Devil’s Dreamland
Queen of Teeth by Hailey Piper is so fucking good, and so fucking gay, that I am absolutely in awe. Like a city-destroying monstrosity secreted within a human form, this dystopian body horror story conceals layers upon layers of romance, tragedy, guilt, and what it means to be human. I would happily be devoured by it again and again.”
– Lindsay King-Miller, author of Ask a Queer Chick

QUEEN OF TEETH hardcover art reveal

Happy March! It’s at last time to reveal the cover art for the hardcover edition of my upcoming queer body horror novel from Rooster Republic through their imprint Strangehouse Books: Queen of Teeth! Feast your eyes on this gorgeous art by Nicholas Day, with the synopsis beside it:

Within forty-eight hours, Yaya Betancourt will go from discovering teeth between her thighs to being hunted by one of the most powerful corporations in America.

She assumes the vagina dentata is a side effect of a rare genetic condition caused by AlphaBeta Pharmaceutical, decades ago, when she and several thousand others were still in the womb.

But, when ABP corporate goons upend her life, she realizes her secondary teeth might be evidence of a new experiment for which she’s the most advanced test tube . . . a situation worsened when Yaya’s condition sprouts horns, tentacles, and a mind of its own.

On the run and transforming, Yaya may be either ABP’s greatest success, or the deadliest failure science has ever created.

The hardcover can be pre-ordered directly from Rooster Republic from today until June 30. After that, no more hardcovers will be available, but the paperback will release in late October/early November with cover art by Don Noble. If you check the site, you’ll also find the book’s first few paragraphs, the hardcover’s interior artwork, and more.

Hardcover orders will ship out in July. I can’t wait for you to meet the Queen.

Best Lesfic Award; Inkheist; “In Subspace, No One Can Hear You Scream” in Mycelia, Issue IV

Today I had the fantastic honor of winning the Best Lesfic of 2020 Award for Best Horror, for my queer cosmic horror novella, The Worm and His Kings! Make horror gay AF!

Also, I had the pleasure of reappearing on the Inkheist podcast to talk about The Worm and His Kings as well as writing process, queer representation, my upcoming 2021 releases Unfortunate Elements of My Anatomy and Queen of Teeth, and whether psychic powers fit into supernatural horror or form their own subgenre of psychic horror. Give a listen!

I expect this will be the last update of a long, long year. Ending it with a bang is my erotic horror story, “In Subspace, No One Can Hear You Scream” that appears in Mycelia issue IV. At this club’s show, there’s more happening than meets the eye. Check it out.

The Worm and His Kings early reviews; Novel announcement

Less than a month to go until The Worm and His Kings releases on November 15, 2020! There’s still time to pre-order a paperback from the publisher and the ebook from Amazon.

Early reviews are already coming in from Goodreads and iHorror!

And then another announcement:

I’ve signed with Rooster Republic/Strangehouse Books to publish my body horror novel as part of their 2021 line-up! Check out the press release snippet from the publisher:

“Hailey Piper … has signed on to release a new horror novel through Strangehouse Books, and this is one hell of a manuscript. We are tempted to call the book “Cronenbergian” but we aren’t sure that really does the story justice. It’s more than that. This book will knock yer socks off. It’ll be getting the hardcover treatment, as well, and we’ll have further announcements over the next couple of months. But, go ahead and get excited.”

Title, cover art, and release date to be announced. Stay tuned! This one has teeth.
