3-book deal + A Game in Yellow cover reveal

A giant monster battle of news landed last week, so there’s a bit of ground to cover here, but I’ll keep it short and snappy!

Titan Books announced a three-book deal with me, with titles releasing over the next three years. First up will be Teenage Girls Can Be Demons, a collection of coming-of-rage horror including new stories, among them two new novelettes, and some returning favorites about our teenage years and the monsters within them. That releases on September 16, 2025. In 2026, a new novel releases, This Movie Doesn’t End the Way We Want, followed by a TBA novel in 2027.

Also coming in 2025, my erotic cosmic horror novel A Game in Yellow from Simon and Schuster, and now it has a wonderful cover by Caroline Teagle! It’s up for pre-order at the usual places, and releases August 12 next year!

“She Tasted of Good Fortune” in We’re Here + more

I’m heading to StokerCon in Pittsburgh this afternoon, but a quick update before hitting the road on two new stories.

We’re Here: An Anthology of LGBTQ+ Horror is out today in ebook! All stories by queer authors, and all proceeds go to the Trevor Project, and with it releasing during Pride Month, what could be more perfect?

I have a novelette inside, “She Tasted of Good Fortune,” which takes place in the world of No Gods for Drowning and tells of curses, criminals, and a sultry deal to find a fortune teller before the night is done. It’s a standalone tale, so whether this is your first dive into the No Gods for Drowning world or you’re returning from reading the book, you’re good to go.

I’ve added a hub page for No Gods for Drowning as a series/setting, where you’ll be able to find links to the current book and novelette, as well as future books and stories as they’re announced/released.

Also if you’re attending StokerCon, I have a flash fic in the new souvenir book, The Monsters That Made Us, which isn’t available beyond the con. “The Black Lagoons of Our Eyes” is my queer love letter to The Creature from the Black Lagoon and series, and how I see myself in its titular creature. I’m delighted it can appear with many top-notch essays and stories of horror origins.

Fangoria, TPONG, and Hideous Horrors

A couple of quick things to share!

Excited to see Fangoria reporting on A Light Most Hateful movie rights being picked up! So excited! The book releases in 2023, and I’ll keep things up to date with both novel and movie news to come.

As some might have noticed, my first novella The Possession of Natalie Glasgow is now out of print. It’s been picked up by a publisher who can hopefully be named later this year or early next year. Expect to see a new edition in 2024. In the meantime, it’s only available via the audiobook narrated by Gemma Amor + stray paperbacks in bookstores.

My The Hideous Book of Hidden Horrors story “When I Catch You” appeared in this star-studded list, “15 Of the Scariest Short Stories to Read This Halloween (And Where to Find Them)” on Paste. Check it out, and the other stories on the list!

“When I Catch You” in Hideous Horrors; “A Soliloquy of Tongues” for Shakespeare Unleashed

Late into June, I have two new stories out!

The first is a new novelette, “When I Catch You,” about a woman being followed, the ghost of an ex-lover, and the mystery of eyes in the dark. You can find it alongside stories by over a dozen incredible authors in The Hideous Book of Hidden Horrors, the first publication of Bad Hand Books. Check it out at Barnes & Noble.

I’m also appearing in the new Crystal Lake Publishing anthology Shakespeare Unleashed. The book itself won’t be out until 2023, but my Hamlet-inspired short story has been put up online for free as a teaser.  Check out “A Soliloquy of Tongues” here.

April News

A little bit of news! A few days ago I appeared at AuthorCon, a new branch of Scares That Care, where I had the fortune of being a guest of honor alongside authors like Mary SanGiovanni, S.A. Cosby, Wrath James White, Josh Malerman, Grady Hendrix, C.V. Hunt, and more! It was my first public signing, first in-person reading, first in-personal, and it was all wonderful! Everyone was kind and patient, and it was just a lovely time all around. I  also had a very cool sign designed by Cassie of Let’s Get Galactic:

In sadder news, due to production circumstances, “Unkindly Girls” will no longer be adapted as part of the film version of Worst Laid Plans. I wish everyone working on the movie the best. Film rights have been returned to me, so maybe “Unkindly Girls” will see the screen someday down a different avenue.

Lastly, I’ve signed with Death’s Head Press to publish three upcoming chapbooks! More details to come when available, but prepare for an ill-fated trio of queer horror and weird crime. On the Splatter Western, Death’s Head Press is all set to publish my third novel Cruel Angels Past Sundown in early 2023.

Lots of good thing to come!

“We Frolic Within the Leviathan’s Heart” in The Book of Queer Saints; “Anything to End the Loneliness” in The Wicked Library

I have two new stories out to close up March!

First up, the much-anticipated release of The Book of Queer Saints! All queer creators, all stories of queer villains. My tale “We Frolic Within the Leviathan’s Heart” opens the book with a bit of seaside horromance and monsters, followed by 12 more lush stories to sink your teeth into.

Over at The Wicked Library, I have a new novelette out in the world! “Anything to End the Loneliness” is a story of longing and isolation, plus crawling things. This is my fourth published novelette, and I’m excited to share this deep story with listeners. Check it out on The Wicked Library site or on your favorite podcast app.

That will draw Women in Horror Month 2022 to a close, but remember to read women year round! More stories to come in April.

Stoker Award nominations, “Parasites of Silver and Gold” in Cosmic Horror Monthly

I’m proud to share that my debut novel Queen of Teeth and my 2021 novelette “Recitation of the First Feeding” have each been nominated for a Bram Stoker Award, in the categories First Novel and Long Fiction respectively!

Honored to appear with these incredible talents on the final ballot, and grateful to all my readers! I’m so very fortunate.

Also, there’s a new story out in the latest issue of Cosmic Horror Monthly! I’m so honored to be featured, with the stellar cover art pertaining to my post-apocalyptic cosmic horror tale, “Parasites of Silver and Gold.”

You can check it out from here!

Queen of Teeth and “Recitation of the First Feeding” make the Stoker Preliminary Ballot

I’m thrilled to share that my novel Queen of Teeth and “Recitation of the First Feeding” (from my collection Unfortunate Elements of My Anatomy) have appeared on this year’s Bram Stoker Award Preliminary Ballot! Queen of Teeth appears in the Superior Achievement in a First Novel category, while “Recitation of the First Feeding” appears as a novelette in the Superior Achievement in Long Fiction category.

They appear with a feast of talents in every category, and I’m so proud to be among them. Voting will begin shortly to see which works make the final ballot and become Stoker nominees, but there’s more work to do between now and then, and a cool announcement to come this week. Keep an eye out!

“Magic Loves the Hungry” in A Conjuring for All Seasons; Library Journal article

A new novelette emerges! Cemetery Gates Media has released A Conjuring for All Seasons, an anthology of five dark witch novelettes with an incredible table of contents. “Magic Loves the Hungry” opens the book with a story of rejection, predation, and horrors both extraordinary and very human.

I also had the honor of writing an article for Library Journal about my debut novel Queen of Teeth which released earlier this year. Hailey Piper on Combining Romance and Horror is free to read on the Library Journal website!

“Endless Parade” in Flash Fiction Online; An Invitation to Darkness in paperback

Welcome to April, our latest geological era of 2020, and I have a new story out! A flash fiction of post-apocalyptic folk horror, “Endless Parade,” is up on Flash Fiction Online.

In less new news, but still new-ish, my LGBT Gothic horror story An Invitation to Darkness, published as a standalone novelette in digital form by Demain Publishing in September 2019, is now in paperback! With the worldwide paper/publishing situation as it is, I’m not sure how availability will be, but it is there. It exists!
